On Tuesday, June 24, the Northeast Asian History Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korean Society of International Law to establish an academic cooperation framework addressing historical issues and territorial and maritime matters in Northeast Asia.
This agreement was established to expand mutual academic exchange between the Foundation and the Korean Society of International Law, a leading academic society in Korea’s international law field, and to share more in-depth research outcomes with the public and the international community through joint studies and policy development.
Founded on June 16, 1953, the Korean Society of International Law is the first academic society in the field of law in Korea and has made significant contributions to the development of international law research and education for over 70 years. Through this partnership with a society that possesses both long-standing academic tradition and legal expertise, the Foundation expects to enhance its capacity for more effective academic and policy-oriented responses in the future.
Under the agreement, the two institutions will collaborate on various initiatives, including ▲ joint academic conferences, seminars, and colloquia on Northeast Asian historical and territorial/maritime issues ▲ and the development and proposal of strategic and policy alternatives related to Northeast Asian history and Dokdo.
At the signing ceremony, President Park Jihang of the Northeast Asian History Foundation stated,
“Through this MOU, we aim to strengthen our academic and policy response capabilities based on international legal expertise related to history, in order to solidify territorial and maritime sovereignty,” and added,
“We expect this to serve as an opportunity to widely share the achievements of our joint research with the public by promoting various collaborative projects such as academic conferences and colloquia, while fostering the development and goodwill of both institutions.”
Going forward, the Foundation will continue to enhance its expertise and practical response capabilities on Dokdo and Northeast Asian historical issues through cooperation with domestic academic institutions.
