International Symposium for Northeast Asian Marine Peace Belt to be held in Kagoshima, Japan

The Northeast Asian History Foundation (NAHF) hosts the 2nd International Symposium for Northeast Asian Marine Peace Belt in association with the Ritsumeikan University Korea Research Center and the Kagoshima University Society of Law.

Under the theme of “Japan’s Memories of Wars concerning East Asia,” the symposium is set to be held on July 24 (Friday) and July 25 (Saturday) in the Grand Conference Hall of Shiroyama Hotel in Kagoshima, Japan.

The event has been organized as part of NAHF’s five-year project. Last December, it held the 1st International Symposium for Northeast Asian Marine Peace Belt in Busan under the theme, “Turning Relics from Warfare in Korea, China and Japan into the Stepping Stone for Peace,” and arranged a tour of relevant relics there.

The Foundation plans to hold such symposiums in the coming years under the following themes: “Sino-Japanese and Russo-Japanese Wars and Japan’s Invasion into and Rule over Manchuria (Northeast Parts of China)” (2010; Dalian, China); “Post-World War II Era of Cold War: National Division and Reconciliation” (2011; Taipei, Taiwan); and “Japanese Rule over Korea (Joseon): Memories of Warfare in Northeast Asia and the Path toward Peace” (2012; Incheon, South Korea). It will organize a tour to relevant relics and field surveys and, putting together the outcomes of symposiums and the accomplishments from field surveys, publish “Guidebook on Artifacts and Vestiges of Warfare in Northeast Asia” (tentatively titled) in South Korea, China and Japan.
