The Northeast Asian History Foundation (Director: Kim Yong-deok) holds an international symposium under the theme of “U.S. Leadership, History and Bilateral Relations in Northeast Asia” at the Grand Conference Hall on the 11th floor of the Northeast Asian History Foundation Building on January 22 and January 23, 2009.

This symposium features presentations and discussions—based on the outcomes of research projects commissioned by the Foundation to researchers in Korea, Japan, China and the United States—to find ways to resolve historical issues in Northeast Asia from a global point of view.

Few studies have been done so far on the issues of historical dispute concerning Northeast Asian nations in consideration of a third country, especially the United States which has huge influence on the region. In this light, this symposium holds great significance in that it seeks to determine the fundamental cause of historical conflicts between Northeast Asian countries and to find solutions to these problems from the global perspective.
