Title: Borderland Studies in China
ISBN 978-89-6187-357-4 93910
Having achieved a remarkable growth in the 1980s, China began undertaking large-scale research projects from the 1990s onward, especially because an atmosphere conducive to research focused on borderlands rather than nationality was created in the Chinese academia as the country's top leaders placed an emphasis on a great revival of the Chinese people. Accordingly, Korea and other East Asian countries became increasingly more interested in China's large-scale national projects and studied some of them. But their research was limited to a few fields or areas and not sufficient to get a comprehensive understanding of the Northeast Project. To address this problem, the Northeast Asian History Foundation conducted a study titled "Regional Research Projects and National Autonomy Studies in China" in 2013, which resulted in this book. It is designed to help gain an understanding of developments in the Chinese academia and contribute to productive academic exchange with China.
