Of the written records of Mongolian history, Quriyangγui Altan tobči (=‘Newly discoveredGolden Summary’) is, as described by Professor Sh. Bira, Professor and Academician of the Mongol Academy of Sciences, the second oldest, if Čaγan teüke whose time of writing is unclear is not counted, next to The Secret History of the Mongols, and it is the first work to use the Indian and Tibetan styles of describing history in following the ancient Mongolian tradition of historiography.

Quriyangγui Altan tobči is a written record of Mongolian history that briefly chronicles events that trace the lives of Khans, which are important sources of ancient Mongolian history. It writes about important historical events that are not found in any other written record of history, and, in particular, includes materials that are fundamental to research on the history of the period between the 14th and 16th centuries. Quriyangγui Altan tobči greatly influenced many other written records of history that came after it, and served as the basis on which Mongolian historians of the 17th to 19th centuries described Mongolian history. Quriyangγui Altan tobči is a very rare text that is fundamental to many aspects of research on the Mongolian language of the 15th to 17th centuries, ranging from how to copy and transcribe the Mongloian script to lexis, semantics, stylistics, and codicology.
