The title is published to collect the photographs of Goguryeo castles, especially in the eastern part of Jilin Province. Goguryeo castles in this area are hardly known to public, or have been considered as fortresses built after the Balhae era. In fact, this area was populated by Okjeo people, and was a very important region of Goguryeo. Also, there are many famous fortresses in this area, and we can see how Balhae achieved development on the foundation of Goguryeo's accomplishments. This photo collection informs us of how Goguryeo managed castles and fortresses in local areas and how Balhae succeeded and further developed the region.
